ExpertEdge content processing overview
How ExpertEdge turns publisher content into multimodal courses with AI, while protecting intellectual property, security and accuracy.
ExpertEdge offers a packaging solution for publishers that allows precise control over how AI is applied to source material. Our internal process transforms published content into interactive, multimodal courses that can be deployed to any LMS.
Handling publisher data
We enhance existing materials using AI inside our own platform. As a publisher ourselves, we understand how much intellectual property matters. We use local models to process text and enterprise OpenAI models for multimodal assets, all inside a secure environment that prevents IP leakage or unauthorised access.
We recognise the sensitivities here. All publisher data is handled professionally, and we never train models on third-party content. Everything we do is designed to add value without compromising the original work.
Secure, local title-level processing
All content is processed through a proprietary, secure workflow that abstracts and sanitises the source material.
We deploy fine-tuned local models to process original text. These are built on established open-source LLMs and trained on our own IP, which lets us convert EPUB content into a clean and accessible format.
Each title is processed individually. Content is never pooled, and no part of the process has full visibility of the original material. Multiple local agents are used to remove hallucinations, and all AI output is subject to human editorial approval.
We use AI strictly to support editorial transformation. The core content remains intact, with changes limited to accessibility and compliance improvements or removal of book-specific formatting.
Enhancements aligned with original content
Our process adds to the original rather than rewriting it. That is central to how we avoid hallucinations and keep the content faithful to the source.
Interactive components such as quizzes and videos are directly tied to the source. These are always presented alongside the original content within the same heading structure.
All enhancements undergo human editorial review to ensure accuracy and relevance. We have developed dedicated QA processes to support these new workflows.
Security and regulatory compliance
Our systems are built for security and regulatory compliance.
All data is encrypted at rest and in transit using secure AWS infrastructure. We use SSO and MFA across Microsoft 365 and AWS, with strict IAM policies and SSM-based EC2 access.
Where we use OpenAI models, it is through an enterprise environment with zero data retention, limited to specific tasks such as alt text generation or validation.
We run regular vulnerability scans, maintain audit logs, and comply with all relevant legislation including data protection laws and the EU AI Act.
We design our AI process to be transparent and explainable, and we hold the output to accessibility standards.
Transparency and ethical practices
We are both a publisher and a technology company. That combination is what lets us meet the needs of large content holders.
Publishers have the option to review and approve multimodal output before distribution.
We never use licensed content to train models and have safeguards in place to prevent this. Content is only used to support the product it belongs to.
At the end of a licence term, we follow strict expungement procedures to ensure data is not retained or misused.
Accessible and compliant learning experiences
Accessibility and regulatory compliance are embedded into our editorial workflows.
Our multimodal player meets all major global accessibility standards. It supports keyboard navigation, screen readers, and other essential assistive technologies.
The result is a consistent experience that works for more learners and extends the reach of your content.

Frequently asked questions
Do you use publisher content to train or fine-tune AI models?
No. We never use publisher content to train or fine-tune AI. Our AI-assisted processes support editorial enhancement only, using models trained on our in-house catalogue where rights allow.
How do you ensure the security of publisher data during processing?
We apply encryption, access controls, and secure infrastructure throughout. All data is processed in isolation, with no aggregation across publishers.
What measures prevent biased outputs from your AI models?
Our in-house methods keep outputs grounded in the source and remove hallucinations. We use fine-tuned local models, not just low temperature settings, and human editors review every output.
Do you conduct penetration testing?
We run regular vulnerability scans but do not currently conduct full penetration tests. We align with industry standards and use vendor security features.
Can publishers review and approve content before release?
Yes. We offer full review and approval workflows before distribution to ensure enhancements meet your standards.
How is data handled at the end of the licence period?
We delete all licensed data following a clear expungement process once the agreement ends.
Is AI integrated into the end-user experience?
No. AI supports the transformation process but does not appear in the user-facing product. Our multimodal player is non-interactive from an AI perspective.
How do you ensure accessibility compliance?
Our editorial process ensures the output meets global accessibility regulations, including WCAG. A full VPAT is available on request.
What types of content enhancements do you provide?
We add multiple-choice questions, videos, and other interactive components that are linked to the original material, without altering its meaning.
How are post-publication changes managed?
Our editorial team monitors and manages updates, working with publishers to make corrections or improvements quickly when needed.
