Sebastian Raschka

About
Sebastian Raschka, PhD, is a large language model research engineer with more than a decade of experience in artificial intelligence and applied machine learning. As founder of RAIR Lab, he collaborates with Fortune 500 companies on applied AI solutions, and he serves on the Open Source Board at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he supports the institution's contributions to the broader ML research community.
His earlier roles include senior staff research engineer at Lightning AI, where he worked on the open-source PyTorch tooling that underpins much of contemporary deep learning work. That hands-on experience with the frameworks practitioners actually deploy gives his teaching an unusual depth, focused on the engineering decisions that determine whether models perform in production rather than the algorithmic theory that dominates academic curricula.
Raschka is the author of three best-selling technical books published by Packt, including Machine Learning with PyTorch and Scikit-Learn, Python Machine Learning, and Build a Large Language Model From Scratch. All have become canonical references for practitioners moving from data science fundamentals into production ML systems. His books form a substantial part of the ExpertEdge catalogue, transformed into structured video lessons, modular reading and assessments designed for enterprise LMS deployment.
His current work continues to focus on practical, code-driven implementations of modern AI systems, with a particular emphasis on building large language models from foundations rather than treating them as opaque APIs. For engineering leaders running ML capability programmes, his ExpertEdge titles offer the kind of structured depth that builds genuine skill, the topic explored in our analysis of how to evaluate technical training content.
